…Mark Girr asked Becky McKinnell to meet at a local coffee shop in Portland, Maine. Mark, with more than a decade of experience with intranets and employee communications, from small businesses to Fortune 1000 Companies, came to Becky, a digital agency entrepreneur, with his idea for the perfect intranet.
Within an hour of meeting, Becky said, "I totally get it, I'm in," and went back to her office to design the first version of ikno. After a few months, they had their first ikno client, a local community bank with 300 employees.
When ikno successfully launched at the bank with a reported 100% adoption, the CIO said, "Our employees love it, love it, love it!"
In 2014 Mark and Becky realized that ikno could be more. It could help many more businesses better their employee engagement and knowledge sharing, but it had to change – it had to be re-tooled and move to the cloud.
Enter Joey Brunelle, a colleague of Becky's who just moved back from Silicon Valley. Joey joined ikno to completely reprogram ikno's interface to the cloud – and help us transform from a local to a regional… and soon a national intranet solution provider.
Our cloud version launched with a regional insurance company – a few months later their COO said, “ikno has changed our entire company for the better.”
Today, a growing number of forward-thinking companies use ikno to be more productive, more competitive and more transparent with their workers. And ikno works for organizations in every industry — financial services, manufacturers, technology, professional services, healthcare and more.
And we’re just getting started…
Mark developed the concept, functionality, and operational philosophy for ikno.
Having spearheaded employee communications and intranet development for a $26 billion financial services company, Mark left that arena to start his own communications consulting firm with a focus on improving the internal messaging, employee interaction and intranet content for organizations of all sizes.
Becky designed the user-friendly interface of ikno as it is today.
Becky started in this industry as a designer but quickly realized how much she enjoys the creative entrepreneurial side of building a business. She was recognized in BusinessWeek as a Top 25 Entrepreneur Under 25, awarded Young Entrepreneur of the Year by the Small Business Administration and a recipient of the Stevie Women in Business Award.
Joey developed ikno on the cloud to be scalable and super fast to load.
Joey is a a multi-talented, full-stack web developer and designer. He can do front-end, back-end, and UI/UX design. He's entirely self-taught, and has been working as a consultant and for startups since graduating from Brown University in 2007.
Employees should instinctively be able to use ikno. The interface must be beautiful and intuitive so that ikno is fun. We promise not to create features that won’t be used.
We believe that quality content on a consistent basis is the key to a successful intranet. ikno will always adapt to reflect each client's unique personality and company culture.
Our customers rely on ikno every day. Their feedback is the most important factor to helping make ikno better.
We have fun and laugh but at the same time we work hard and make smart decisions. We are thoughtful of others.
